I found that the time it took to enter the Cumbria Life Food and Drink Awards gave me a good opportunity to reflect on the different areas of the business - what we've worked hard at and what the results have been.
The dinner is a super event, with a real buzz about it. It's good to celebrate, particularly when there's so much doom and gloom about the economy.
Winning was just wonderful, a real tribute to the hard work of the staff here, and as Cumbria Life is such a well regarded magazine it really meant a lot.
The award brought us recognition from both existing customers and new. The signs I had made for the roadside were a quick way of communicating to people that we're worth investigating, and winning really did make a difference to this year's customer numbers.

Dear Mr Eccles,
I felt that I should write to acknowledge and thank you for the award that we so recently received. We were very excited to have been nominated for a Cumbria Life Award and over the moon to have won our category.
Awards such as your do wonders for our publicity machine, giving us a story to put out into the world via facebook, our website, twitter and our printed adverts. We are grateful for this opportunity; in such continuing harsh economic times it is all grist to the mill.
There is also another benefit which we have noticed; that of staff morale. Since gaining your award we have seen a terrific uplift in the pride of everyone at Holbeck, proud that their hard work has been recognised. It is always easy to complain nowadays, so instances like this are only made even more important.
Myself and my team look forward to working closely with you in 2012.
Sarah Hunter, Hunter’s Puddings
Thank you very much for the photos and the kind message from Richard Eccles. Are there any stickers planned to go on to winning product? We would be keen on this - and maybe others would too.
We had a wonderful evening, thank you very much! It was so refreshing to have an evening packed with positivity when the media is so full of crisis and doom at the moment. Really uplifting.
I thought the meal was superb and you could tell from the body language of the students when they were clapped into the room quite how much it meant to them.
Juno Lowther, The George and Dragon,
I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. It was a fantastic event, which we were very proud to be a part of, especially to be shorltisted among such a high standard of foodie establishments. We will certainly apply again next year for another chance! I will be very happy to complete a survey about the awards process and look forward to receiving it in due course. Please pass on my thanks to Richard Eccles and the
